Alexandra Rose

Story Behind The Wine

Bernard de Nonancourt took the opportunity of his elder daughter Alexandra’s marriage in 1987 to create this vintage rosé Champagne. It expresses the very highest standards epitomised by the House of Laurent-Perrier, which also produces the benchmark non-vintage rosé Champagne. It was therefore a natural progression to produce a luxury cuvee rosé, an exclusive and rare wine that occupies a unique niche in its range.

Alexandra Rosé is made from wines from the finest growths and exemplifies Laurent-Perrier's very high standards. The pinot noir undergoes a short maceration before chardonnay is added for finesse. Ageing takes between 5 and 10 years, according to the characteristics of the vintage.

The result is a delicately-coloured wine with unique and complex aromatic depth.

The style of this wine is marked by a deep salmon-pink hue and fine bubbles with rich aromas of preserved citrus fruit and a gentle touch of orange peel. There is great length and grip on the palate, which finishes with notes of very ripe, red fruits. The natural power of Alexandra Rosé gives it the capacity to go with strongly flavoured dishes such as game birds with cranberry sauce.

Tasting Notes

Aspect

The colour is a deepish salmon pink, reminiscent of a winter's sunset. The bead is fine and persistent.

Aroma

A complex and well-balanced nose that is reminiscent of orange peel and small red berry fruit. There are some lingering hints of yellow stone fruit (peaches and apricots) and it finishes with subtle mineral aromas.

Taste

Full-bodied from the start, with clear flavours of black cherries. Powerful and long-lasting, with a finish that combines ripe red fruit with a firm grip.

Serving

To be served between 10°C
and 12°C.

Excellent match with game birds and a cranberry or bilberry sauce and it has sufficient power and depth to go with even stronger flavours.

Blend

Grape Varieties*

About 80% Pinot Noir, and 20% Chardonnay.

Crus

Uses some of the most prestigious Champagne village growths, such as Ambonnay, Bouzy, Louvois, Tours-sur-Marne, Verzenay and Mailly, for Pinot Noir, and Avize, Cramant, Chouilly and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger for Chardonnay.

Wine Making and Ageing

A special selection of plots and vineyard sites, with the grapes hand-sorted and de-stemmed, prior to a short maceration of the Pinot Noir. When blended with some delicate Chardonnay, this produces a wine of gentle colour and uniquely complex aroma. The ageing in our cellars lasts for at least six years.
